Director of Lifelong Learning

Matt Borek spent two decades in education before joining The Neon Museum in December 2023 as Director of Lifelong Learning. He began his career as a music teacher in Massachusetts and at an American-curriculum school in Morocco, and then for state agencies in Massachusetts and Nevada, focusing on issues related to educator effectiveness. He also worked in teacher preparation programs at Boston College and the University of Illinois, in addition to launching the Nevada Institute on Teaching and Educator Preparation at UNLV. 

Matt earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College, as well as a Master's degree in Educational Research, Measurement and Evaluation and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College. 

Throughout his career, Matt enjoyed working with teachers to design engaging, interdisciplinary experiences for their students. Now he is excited to extend that work at The Neon Museum, continuing to form new partnerships and finding new opportunities to create meaningful learning experiences in nontraditional spaces. 

Matt has lived in Las Vegas since 2016 and enjoys hiking, travelling, meeting every dog in a dog park, and exploring the local area with his incredibly patient wife.
