Selected from an impressive roster of applicants, Allison Wiese is interested in the mythologies of American cultural and natural landscapes. Working previously with materials such as standard highway signage, flags and commercial awnings, Wiese drew inspiration from the Neon Museum collection and developed a series of works using sugar to recreate mid-century breeze blocks and neon signs, works on paper and suitcases with phrases commonly heard in 1930s movies. Slap, Slap, Kiss  neon work was gifted to the museum. 

Wiese is an interdisciplinary artist who makes sculptures, installations, sound works, performances and architectural interventions. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, at Machine Project in L.A., the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and Socrates Sculpture Park in New York, among other venues. Wiese is a fellow of the MacDowell Colony, an alumna of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and is currently University of San Diego Department of Art Chair.
