In this photo of the shop from Sign Systems Incorporated (now known as Federal Heath) we get to see what happens behind the scenes when these signs are being created.
In the foreground are chandeliers that were to be installed at Barbary Coast (now the Cromwell). We have several of the Barbary Coast letters in the collection. Perhaps more interesting is the piece in the background. The letter R with the white cover with red paint around the edge appears to be from the Stardust. In the early 1990s the Stardust changed their font to a more modern Futura style. It appears that SSI was working on both the Barbary Coast and the Stardust at around the same time. We also have the newer font style letters from Stardust in the collection, along with the more jagged atomic style from the 1950s.
